Every year, Lange Nacht der Theater presents an original and diverse program in more than twenty theatres in Hanover. The program includes theatre, opera, dance, music, variety theatre, comedy, puppet theatre, acrobatics, magic and reading. For one night, visitors move through the city from stage to stage following the route of their choice.
Bureau Hardy Seiler and Ilina Catana redesigned the visual identity of the event in 2016. A new font was chosen for the logotype – Maison Neue by Timo Gaessner – for its flexibility and the distinctive appearance of its characters. The project included the design of poster, flyer, programme, various advertising formats and an animation. The design is inspired by the night and the city’s space. The letters are like projections against the ground, an invitation to follow the direction. The dynamic composition is amplified by a combination of light and shadow effects reflecting the particular atmosphere of the night. The black and white typographic poster is loud, challenges the viewer and contrasts with the colourful and saturated surrounding environment of the city.
